Photoworks would like to appoint a writer in residence to contribute to 2020s five editions of Photography+.

Now Closed

Photography+ is Photoworks’ online magazine. With five themed issues each year, the digital publication is read by international audiences and showcases new writing, imagery, and perspectives on photography. Each issue focuses on a different theme exploring where photography crosses over with everyday life. Past themes have included architecture, dance, and space.

As writer in residence, you will work closely with the Digital Programme Producer and Director to plan the direction of each issue. You will deliver a total of five written articles (no more than 800 words each), one for each issue of 2020. We work with a copy editor on Photography+ who will edit all content for publication online.

The successful writer should have a working knowledge of contemporary artistic practices and a willingness to look beyond the photographic for inspiration. The opportunity would suit an early-career writer looking to gain experience writing and publishing online.

This is a paid residency with a £1,500 fee. As well as delivering five articles, the writer in residence will need to be available for a series of Skype or in-person meetings with the Photoworks team.

How to apply

To submit your application, please supply three writing examples in PDF format and a short statement detailing how you’d approach the residency. The writing examples could be in a range of writing styles. Video submissions detailing your approach are also accepted and should be no more than three minutes. Please note that writing examples will still be required if you are submitting a video application. If you have any issues with your application, please email raquel@photoworks.org.uk.
