Photoworks Director, Celia Davies is guest curator for HOUSE 2015 which this year takes the theme of ‘Edge and Shift’.

Turner Prize shortlisted, Nathan Coley is this year’s Invited Artist and in a co-commission with Brighton Festival is creating new sculptural work Portaits of Dissension. Sited in Brighton’s Regency Town House Nathan’s installation will explore ideas of portraiture and representation, destruction and renovation, the politics of space and the materialisation of objects within.

Following an open call, three further commissions make a point of connection with Coley’s work:

Amanda Loomes  will create a new HD film installation for her co-commission with Photoworks. Using  non-linear video editing the film considers the marine aggregate industry. “People at work have always pre-occupied me” says Amanda, “I am particularly moved by the effort of people whose work goes unnoticed, or work that becomes erased or undone.”

A digital community project, City Collective, also co-commissioned with Photoworks, is a ‘collective portrait’ of people’s reflections on conflict.

Joseph Popper in a co-commission with Lighthouse is creating a large-scale, immersive installation in the basement of a historic bomb site. A 1:1 scale hand-made drone command centre will play on the DIY methods of amateur enthusiasts, who construct highly detailed and accurate flight simulators from simple materials. Joseph says “Drones exemplify how technology has joined the fighter pilot with the wider global audience in a remote viewing of conflict.”
