Director’s Announcement

Photoworks Director, Celia Davies, has announced she is to step down at the end of 2017.

Celia Davies says,

“It is with a great deal of excitement I announce that Photoworks is seeking a new Director.

After eight incredible and transformative years with the organisation, I will be leaving Photoworks at the end of this year.

Photoworks is a special and distinctive organisation, entirely dedicated to photography, its role in our visual culture and relevance to contemporary society.

Photoworks has real purpose and has created so many meaningful opportunities for exceptional photographers and artists to make new and thought-provoking work, whilst providing an influential platform for them to make and share their ideas.

During my time here, I’ve had the privilege to work with so many talented people – the artists we work with, the partners and individuals who share our mission and of course, the incredible Photoworks team.

On a personal level, enormous thanks must go to everyone I’ve worked with, helping Photoworks to achieve what it does best. I shall miss the projects and people, but handover in the knowledge that the organisation is in excellent shape.

Photoworks’ NPO funding is secured until 2022 and is complemented by our new five-year partnership with the University of Brighton, laying the groundwork to achieve even greater strategic growth in the coming years.

Added to this, Photoworks has extraordinary projects in motion for the future Director to shape and determine, plus a committed, qualified Board of Trustees who bring further strength to the organisation.

We look forward to finding the next Director who will take Photoworks’ purpose and ambitions forward into the next phase of its evolution.

An outline of the role and supporting information can be found here. Please do share the opportunity and spread the word.”

Matt Locke, Chair of Photoworks says,

“As a Board member and Chair of Photoworks over the last eight years, I’ve been very lucky to work with Celia as she has guided and developed Photoworks into the innovative and important commissioning agency it is.

Her ability to develop national and international partnerships with organisations like Jerwood Charitable Foundation and British Council has taken Photoworks’ activities and influence to a new level, and she leaves the organisation with the team and resources in place for a new Director to take it even further.

On behalf of the Board, we want to thank Celia for her incredible hard work and creative leadership, and wish her well on the next phase of her career.”
