Photoworks are once again partnering HOUSE, the visual arts festival in our home city that complements the annual Brighton Festival.
Similarly to our own festival, Brighton Photo Biennial, HOUSE presents work across the city, often in surprising locations. Photoworks Acting Director, Celia Davies is HOUSE2013 Guest Curator.
Lead artist Mariele Neudecker’s work will take over a 19th Century townhouse with an installation employing techniques that span the history of photography from a biscuit-tin pinhole to the latest HD cameras. Following an open call for proposals, four new projects have been created in response to the theme Knowable/Unknowable landscapes. Lens-based practitioners are more strongly represented amongst the commissioned artists than ever and include Emma Critchley and Andrew Kotting with Anonymous Bosch.
Here’s a video of her talk at Lighthouse:
Celia says, “We are delighted for Photoworks to be working with House again. We have always enjoyed exploring connections between disciplines and both our organisations thrive on bringing new ideas in artistic process and presentation to the city.”
