Making it Happen

24 February 2016

Helping young people find out about photography

In partnership with the Widening Participation team at the University of Brighton, we deliver one-day conferences of talks and workshops for young people. Our Making it Happen events have been running for over ten years.

The aims of Making it Happen are to introduce 16 – 18 year olds to contemporary photography, to provide realistic information about what it takes to be a photographer, and offer some hands-on photography experience.

Over 70 young people from  schools across Sussex attended our January 2016 event and enjoyed inspirational presentations from artists Helen Cammock and Simon Roberts, plus guided exhibition tours and practical workshops including darkroom and studio shoots led by specially trained arts undergraduates.

Our next Making It Happen event is scheduled for October 2016 and will include workshops engaging with our Brighton Photo Biennial programme.

Nearly two hundred young people from across Brighton & Hove spent the day at the University of Brighton, where they engaged directly with successful artists from a range of positions within the creative industries through presentations, portfolio sessions and workshops.
