About London Art Fair
Annually launching the art world year, the Fair provides a supportive environment for collectors of all levels. Museum quality Modern British art is presented alongside work from today’s leading artists, covering the early 20th century to the present day. In addition to the main Fair you’ll find two curated sections focusing on younger galleries, new work and contemporary photography; Art Projects and Photo50.
Photo50: Resolution is Not the Point curated by Hemera Collective
This annual guest-curated exhibition provides a critical forum to examine and debate some of the most innovative and distinctive elements of contemporary photographic practice around the world.
Resolution is Not the Point (17 – 21 January) will feature work by ten contemporary artists and artists collectives using lens-based mediums including Marie Yates, Pio Abad, David Birkin and Larry Achiampong.
The exhibition has been curated by Hemera Collective, the first time in Photo50’s history that a collective has taken on this role. Resolution is not the point. considers photography and lens-based media as a catalyst for interdisciplinary exchange and collective action, looking at artists whose work spans multiple fields and collectives whose members are situated across continents.
Themes to emerge from this year’s Photo50 include works which explore new mediums such as virtual reality, alternative narratives created through reinterpreting and repurposing archival and found photographs, and works which focus on the relationship between humanity and the environment, reflecting photography’s dual use as both a scientific apparatus and artform.
Photography Focus Day
An associated programme of events runs in parallel with London Art Fair with a Photography Focus Day on Friday 19 January 2018 including artist talks, guided tours and panel discussions examining contemporary photographic practice.
