For our next POST x Photoworks Photobook Club, Photoworks’ Assistant Curator Amin Yousefi will be introducing the book Yesterday, Come Closer by Palestinian Visual Artist, Ibrahem Hasan.
The self-published, 728-page book brings together photography, archival material, poetry, essays, personal writing and contributions from a wider group of artists and writers. Hasan describes it as a non-linear visual, aural and textual exploration of Palestinian collective memory, shaped by questions of home, belonging, displacement, erasure, violence, resistance and liberation.
The project was developed alongside material from the Palestinian Digital Archive and is also connected to a sound system created in collaboration with Radio Alhara.
Amin Yousefi is a London-based writer, curator, and image-based artist. His work examines photography and the archive through their social and political dimensions, focusing on how images shape knowledge, power, and embodied experience. Working across photography, text, and installation, he engages archival material through processes of reconstruction and reconfiguration. He is a recipient of the Royal Photographic Society Award for Achievement in the Art of Photography. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf; Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam; Fotografisk Center, Copenhagen; and Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation, Frankfurt. Yousefi’s practice engages the archive as a site of intervention, where images can be re-read and reworked from within.
As usual, this photobook club session is intended to be welcoming and interactive with a small cohort of photobook lovers!
