Francesca Allen (b. 1993, British) is a photographer living and working in London.  Focusing on ideas surrounding youth, femininity and friendship, Francesca’s  approach is unusually sensitive.  Drawing on her own experiences of vulnerability,  the close relationships Francesca builds with her models aims to diffuse the traditional  power relations between photographer and the subject.

Most recently, Francesca spent a month in Tokyo documenting a young Japanese woman named Aya. Mixing fashion photography with candid images of Aya’s daily life, this project will be published by Libraryman in September 2018.

@francesca_allen_ posting for Photoworks. Aya photographed in Tokyo in 2016. I met Aya for a few hours and took this photo which led me to return to Tokyo in 2017 where I spent a full month photographing her. My first book of our photos together published by Libraryman will be released in September this year.

Francesca’s work has been exhibited at galleries including The Photographer’s Gallery, The Southbank Centre and The Serpentine and featured and commissioned by clients such as The British Journal of Photography, It’s Nice That, Stella McCartney, Diane Von Furstenburg, i-D Magazine, Dazed, AnOther and Riposte Magazine.
