Jessica Backhaus is regarded as one of the most distinguished voices in contemporary photography in Germany today and takes over our Instagram account during November, 2016.

Jessica’s work is exhibited and published internationally and found in important collections, both public and private, such as the Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Margulies Collection in Miami or the Deutschen Börse Collection in Frankfurt. Born in 1970 and raised in Berlin, she studied photography and visual communication in Paris. She refers to Gisèle Freund as one of her most important teachers and mentors during that time. From 1995 to 2009, Backhaus lived in New York; since 2009 she is living and working in Berlin.

To date, she has seven publications to her name; Jesus and the Cherries, 2005, What Still Remains, 2008, One Day in November, 2008 and I Wanted to See the World, 2010, ONE DAY- 10 photographers, Once, still and forever, 2012 and six degrees of freedom, 2015 all published by Kehrer Verlag, Heidelberg.
