Hi! @monicaalcazarduarte here…While showing my installations and book on space exploration, I have often been told that people thought the work was made by a man. As a Latin American woman who lives in Europe I love to be able to take my phone out of my pocket and show the AR component in the work. I would say that the majority of people find the App interesting, but I feel that many times what is even more surprising for them is that someone who looks and speaks like me is showing something so ‘technologically advanced’. I deeply appreciate this unexpected interaction with the audience. It almost feels like it adds an extra layer to the work. This is a very small phone-screen-recorded extract of one of five animations included in ‘The New Colonists’ photobook. The Augmented reality element of the book functions as a kind of technological portal, an extra layer that can only be accessed with the app devised for the project. The photobook was published by @thephotographersgallery and @bemojake Designed by @ramon.pez Produced by @mcquaidphoto The animations were made in collaboration with artist and animator Levan Tozashvilli. The AR App was designed by Paul Ferragut. The book includes a text by #MarekKukula.
