We welcome the Muslim Sisterhood collective, whose work has been selected as part of Annual 26 to take over our Instagram account.

Muslim Sisterhood is an artistic collective working within photography, publishing and events to create an inclusive creative community centering Muslim womxn and non-binary Muslims. The collective is co-founded by Zeinab Saleh, a recent graduate from The Slade School of Fine Art, Sara Gulamali, a graduate from Central Saint Martins and Lamisa Khan, who studied International Relations at LSE and is currently studying her Masters in Gender Studies at SOAS.

Hi this is @trustmebaba from @muslimsisterhood sharing my fave work! When we began our photo series it was really important for us to celebrate the places that were important to us growing up as young Muslims in London and archive them through our images. We often shot in markets and corner shops in areas with big Muslim communities and befriended the uncles who worked there. This photo of Abeni was taken in Brixton, an area in London that is sadly falling victim to gentrification. It’s one of my favourite images because it captures the essence of being Muslim in London. I love the colours, the halal shop in the back and the way the winter sun hits Abeni 💛 Photography @trustmebaba Model @olayinkaaade #photoworks_uk #muslimsisterhood #instagramtakeover #photography

@muslimsisterhood here with our final post of our takeover!✨⠀ ⠀ This image means a lot to us as its the official cover of our first Muslim Sisterhood zine. Made with the support of @betweenborders its a collection of our photography and features wonderful texts by Muslim womxn and non-binary Muslims. ⠀ ⠀ They offered stories, poetry, recipes and together we created something we were truly proud of – a reflection of everything we’ve worked on in the last few years. ⠀ ⠀ We also hosted a launch party at Nike’s 1948ldn space, to celebrate the zine’s release. It was a night full of mocktails, good music, great friends and supporters 🎈❤️ ⠀ Our zine is available for purchase at the ICA London Bookshop. Inshallah, we hope to create a second zine too! 🌱🤞🏽 ⠀ Photography @sarag.art ⠀ Models @jeeba + @yasmuneer⠀ Styling @trustmebaba⠀ Creative direction @_zeinabsaleh⠀ Makeup @shireenkadhim⠀ ⠀ #photoworks_uk #muslimsisterhood #instagramtakeover #photography

Most recently, they were included in the 2020 Dazed 100 list in recognition of the collective’s contribution to the creative industry. Their work has been exhibited at V&A Lates, 2018 and LSE’s 2018 exhibition celebrating a century of women’s Suffrage. They launched their self-titled zine in 2019 which is available to purchase at the ICA London Bookshop.
