Instagram Takeover: Nico Krijno

Our next guest editor on our Instagram takeover is Nico Krijno. Krijno’s photography is at the intersection of performance, painting, montage, and sculpture.

His photographs are full of visual codes, riddles, patterns and color. His latest book How To Leave Your Body Behind is both playful, carefully structured and completely non-linear. Nico Krijno builds sculptures out of discarded materials, continues to rearrange them over and over, photographing them during this process. These photographs then are re-processed and altered again into new forms – using photoshop, paint and/or collage – creating new narratives and meaning. His explorations represent an experiment into the perceived truths of objects, the medium of photography and its history.

Reminiscent of traditional still lifes, Nico’s photographs are loaded with humorous visual information, challenging the boundaries of the still image with his ever-changing mise-en-scène.

Hello Photoworks community! my name is @nicokrijno, a South African artist currently under lockdown in a farmhouse on a mountain just outside Cape Town. I’m separated from my wife and kids at this stage which is sad, and very strange as we are always together almost in a self-imposed lockdown state, brought on by the fact that we chose to live so remotely. So I’m very used to the isolation like an astronaut or a lighthouse-keeper, but when it becomes imposed by your government it takes on a whole new meaning to be forced to stay in one place. throughout this week I will share some work from my recent book ‘How To Leave Your Body Behind’ – as well as some new projects I’m working on.
