The Ampersand/ Photoworks Fellowship is a transformative commissioning opportunity for a mid-career artist to complete a new body of work. This Fellowship is created in collaboration with The Ampersand Foundation for an artist working with photography living in the UK.
Whilst many opportunities exist for emerging and graduate photographers, the UK currently has few high-profile open-access opportunities for mid-career photographers that support artists to make and exhibit new work.
The call for entries will launch on Friday, 28 April and will be open for five weeks. Applications will be through the Picter platform, and full application guidance will be available on this page. Further, the selection panel will be announced shortly.
This opportunity is open to artists living in the UK, and there is no age limit or fee to apply. After its successful launch of the first Fellowships, the second edition continues to enable and nurture the creation of new work through a combination of support, including:
- £15,000 artist fee
- £10,000 production budget
- Mentoring support from a high-profile international pool of experts
- Curatorial support from the Photoworks and Ampersand Team
- A dedicated public programme and digital content with international reach
- Touring exhibition
The Fellowship is a collaboration between Ampersand Foundation and Photoworks, supported by Spectrum Photographic. The exhibition of the previous recipient Johny Pitts, Home is Not a Place, is currently on view at Stills in Edinburgh and will continue the tour later in 2023.
