We are pleased to announce our 2020 programme, which marks 25 years of Photoworks. Our theme for the year, Alternative Narratives, attempts to rethink traditional histories and to highlight and support under-acknowledged artists whose work has been lesser seen.
The programme includes a rethinking of a photography festival, national and international partnerships, new digital commissioned content and a 25th anniversary Photoworks Annual. It will be drawn together with local, national and international communities and across the physical and the digital.
Shoair Mavlian, Director, Photoworks, commented, ‘We will mix so-called high and low culture, presenting both fine art, photo books, magazines and archival material across the year, in many different contexts. These different perspectives, and in the times we are living through, will draw upon and reframe the last 25 years of contemporary photography and offer counter narratives to disrupt and rethink embedded hierarchies, power structures and influence in image making and distribution’.
