Photoworks Festival 2026 is an international festival of contemporary photography that takes place across Brighton & Hove this October consisting of exhibitions, events and activities that take place at various arts venues throughout the city.

Integral to the festival is a range of opportunities for schools that support young people’s engagement with, and enjoyment of the exhibitions.

This is an exciting opportunity for Arts undergraduates to support Photoworks as we welcome school groups to the festival. Photoworks is pleased to offer paid opportunities for the role of Student Artist Facilitator to a cohort of sixteen undergraduates (from any Arts course or background) to deliver creative workshops for secondary school groups visiting the Photoworks Festival.

Successful applicants will receive (paid) training from award winning artist Annis Joslin and the highly experienced Photoworks team providing them with all skills and expertise required to successfully plan and deliver simple creative sessions in a gallery setting.

Successful applicants will work in pairs, supported by the Photoworks team at all times.

Training will provide background information on all exhibiting artists, a short introduction to gallery education, current practice, and debates, review examples of practice. It will cover all aspects of working as an artist facilitator (teaching strategies, task setting, evaluation, communication, organisation, safeguarding). In pairs you will plan a series of simple creative tasks such as discussion, photography and drawing, test these with each other ahead of working with your school groups, then come back together to reflect on the experience.

Mentoring is a key part of this programme. Each person will receive a mentoring session with Annis Joslin and Juliette Buss Head of Learning at Photoworks and recipient of the Royal Photographic Society Award for work with young people, 2025.

This part-time role is paid with a total of 31 hours, starting 28 September 2026 and finishing by 6 November 2026.

Please note: candidates must be within reasonable, local travelling distance of Brighton & Hove.

Deadline: 18 May 2026, 11.59pm
