Photoworks are pleased to partner with the Ampersand Foundation to offer a new residency opportunity for lens-based artists, running from February to June 2020 for this inaugural edition.
The selected artist will be Freddy Griffiths, who will work at and be based at Wigwell Lodge in Derbyshire. Arts institutions from across the Midlands came together to nominate this forthcoming resident artist and public events will take place during the residency in 2020.
Born in 1988 in the United Kingdom, Freddy Griffiths lives and works in Nottingham. Griffiths is an artist working with and around photography, seeking to use the photographic image to further non-hierarchical methodologies in contemporary art and everyday scenarios. His ongoing exploration has resulted in the formation of a photographic archive.
Recent international investigations in the last two years have centred on questions of photographic materiality and the finite nature of natural resources. Walking or cycling as a primary mode of transport has defined the making of photographs during these excursions.
Griffiths is keen to embrace contradictory and ambiguous ways of working for future presentations of his archive. He has exhibited across the UK and USA.
