The Well, Kemptown
4pm – 8pm

Join us for the book launch of Lauren Joy Kennett’s (LJK) first photobook Sorry I’m Not Sorry and Cole Flynn Quirke’s (CFQ) House of the Stray Dog.

Following the solo exhibition of Sorry I’m Not Sorry, Lauren Joy Kennett (LJK) and Photoworks are proud to launch the artist’s first photobook.

Sorry Iʼm Not Sorry explores LJK’s experience of living with undiagnosed autism. Through autobiographical and archive photography, LJK uses cutting and collaging techniques to explore self-discovery, and confrontation of life’s traumas and experiences that have shaped her existence. The work was commissioned as part of Explorers, a national creative programme to increase the visibility and representation of neurodivergent artists in contemporary visual arts, led by Project Art Works with Photoworks and cultural partners nationwide.

Alongside LJK’s inaugural publication, Jane and Jeremy are also launching their second book with Cole Flynn Quirke (CFQ). House of the Stray Dog is the latest visual odyssey shot in the two years following his autobiographical study of youth and nostalgia, Even a Maniac Can Learn to Drive. Stray Dog departs from the scrapbook-like schoolboy methodology of his earlier projects, instead oscillating around a series of intricately woven visual motifs whose gravitational pull intensifies with each turn of the page.

The images presented constitute a heady cocktail of the natural and the human-formed, marking an egress from the street-pounding adolescent urbanity around which Maniac centred. CFQ strings together a series of photographic offerings that weave a visual narrative around the bittersweetness of self-realisation and the solitude of adulthood.

The photobook launch is the first chance to view these exciting new publications, as well as meet the artists and book designers.

LJK / CFQ exhibition at the Bookend

LJK and CFQ join for an exhibition to celebrate new books of their work being released by publishers Jane & Jeremy. Both artists use the camera, diaristic techniques, text and collage as tools for inward investigation and making sense of the world within and around them.

Brighton based Jane & Jeremy create limited edition artists books that come with a small signed print. The exhibition will take place at The Bookend, their bookshop in Kemp Town.

This exhibition is part of Photo Fringe and will run from 4 October – 16 November 2024.
