“Roots: Forests, Rewilding and Ways of Being” is an interdisciplinary curatorial and artistic research examining the vital role of forest ecosystems, biodiversity, and interdependence in preventing climate collapse. Through engagement with visual and sound art, science and traditional ecological knowledge, it proposes responsive programming rather than a static exhibition. At a time of catastrophic wildfires and ongoing extraction, there is an urgent need to connect different knowledges about the forest towards rewilding and cooperation among ecologically engaged artists, environmental activists, farmers, and landowners. “Roots” highlights visual artists responding to trauma, memory, resilience and healing in forest ecosystems, and their key role in shifting from extraction economy and colonial practices to regeneration and abundance.

Liza Faktor is a visual artist and an independent curator. She curated over twenty exhibitions and festival programs on the intersection of photography, moving image and emerging media, lectured and taught workshops internationally, and produced award-winning installations, films and multi-platform projects with visual artists and filmmakers.
