A partnership project with Ropetackle Arts Centre and the Marine Conservation Society
Students from five West Sussex secondary schools have been exploring pollution along our coastline with artists Annis Joslin, Lindsey Smith and Elizabeth Doak. With marine biologist and Marine Conservation Society’s ‘Agents of Change’ Project Coordinator Alice Tebb, they have been learning why urgent changes are needed to protect our oceans and coastlines from plastic pollution.’
The project featured twilight CPD (continuing professional development) workshops with Art and Science teachers from each school supporting them to devise photography focused programmes using a cross-curricular approach, supported by experienced facilitators.
Every year 5.5 billion UK plastic bottles aren’t recycled (Greenpeace), each minute one truckload of plastic/litter enters the ocean (MCS). Human behaviour has a devastating impact on marine life. This project encouraged local action by educating young people and challenging them to change the behaviours of their peers, parents and town.
