A limited edition book that is the culmination of a twelve month Photoworks residency by photographer Tom Wichelow at the new Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Wichelow taught students the rudiments of documentary photography and encouraged them to document their new environment in order to foster good communication skills.
The book shows the students’ visual response to the medical school, their developing role as medical practitioners and their spare time activities as new students in Brighton alongside images from Tom Wichelow’s own body of work made during the residency: a selection of portraits taken of the students. The book includes an introduction by David Chandler and a dialogue with Helen James, former Project Manager for Education, Photoworks and Helen Smith, Professor of Primary Care, Brighton and Sussex Medical School and the artist.
