Magali Nougarède’s photographs, commissioned by Photoworks for an exhibition at the Towner Art Gallery, are full of that very particular light found only on the coast. By focusing on the minutiae of everyday life, Nougarède’s images narrate the passage of her walks along the Eastbourne promenade. The photographs tell tales of women, of private lives and underlying tensions revealed through personal objects. They are a meditation on, and a mediation between, the spaces of the concrete world and the private spaces of the self. With an essay by Liz Kent.
