HAPAX is co-directed by Christiane Monarchi and Gordon MacDonald. We publish HAPAX Magazine, which takes its name from the literary term ‘hapax legomenon’ describing something unique, new and ‘said only once’. Twice a year, HAPAX commissions artists and curators to produce photographic features with new projects which may be a bit of a departure from their previous practice, or something which has never been published before. We enjoy working with artists and curators to incubate these projects on the pages of our publications and we don’t share this content on the internet. Proceeds from sales of magazines are reinvested into future publishing commissions, to support photographic projects and the creative professionals making them. To date, more than 50 new photographic features have been published in our first eight issues, and issue 9 is currently in the works.
We welcome you to visit and take part in exhibitions and events in our project space, HAPAX Living Room, where we host experimental forms of lens-based art in the living room of our office, part of the creative spaces of Empress Studios, in Earls Court, London.
