Responding to the festival’s themes of uncertainty, land, and human experience, Ukraine: Life Un/Broken paints a societal landscape of a country going through and living with war. Photography, as a method of documentation, reflection, and sharing collective experience, unites two Ukrainian photographers in this exhibition. Igor Chekachkov and Dasha Tendita have distinct visual aesthetics, yet their work enters into dialogue about their country’s most challenging time.

Having experienced forced displacement and the loss of home, Igor’s photo diary 100 Days of War presents a more personal view of encountering and experiencing war. Dasha Tendita’s work captures fragments of the lives of Ukrainians living through the ongoing conflict, exploring themes of stolen childhoods, families experiencing loss, and civilians turned soldiers.

Despite the conflict at its centre, the exhibition aims to offer an opportunity to encounter Ukrainian society more closely, where life coexists with war and its consequences. With human experience at its core, we invite viewers to connect and reflect.
