We are excited to share a new opportunity with you for young artists to tell their unique stories through photography this summer.
We want everyone to document the people, places, and communities that have shaped you at this moment in history, and the heritage you will hand down to future generations.
Submit your imagesImages submitted will be viewed by our panel of curators and artists, with the best being selected for a place in the digital Photoworks Festival in October 2020 and a chance to win a number of other prizes, including mentoring opportunities for one photographer whose photo engages with the theme in the most creative way. See below for the full range of brilliant prizes on offer!
You can also share your photographs of your Untold Heritage with us on Instagram by using #UntoldHeritage #EnglandsNewLenses #AlternativeNarratives and tag @EH_ShoutOutLoud and @photoworks_uk
We will share our favourite submissions on English’s Heritage’s Shout Out Loud Instagram and website and our own Instagram stories and website. We will also give mentoring opportunities from both organisations to one successful photographer who creates work that engages with the theme in the most creative way.
What is untold heritage? Some ideas from us!
You could submit a photo of:
- your personal ancestry and family (such as family, ancestry, traditions, etc.)
- untold heritage (community stories, stories about work, places of significance, community, etc.)
- future heritage (national conversations like climate change, inequality and housing ect.)
We can’t wait to see the work you create which tells your stories, inspired by your heritage!

Working with English Heritage, as part of Shout Out Loud, this project is part of England’s New Lenses which asks young photographers to create new digital photographic artworks exploring their heritage – especially untold heritage.
