Photoworks is pleased to announce Shane Hynan is doing a Digital Residency across July 2026. Keep an eye out to learn more about Shane’s practice, through which he explores place, land, and architecture, drawing on conceptual, performative, and subjective documentary approaches.
Biography
Shane Hynan is a visual artist based in Ireland. His practice centres on photography, incorporating experimental elements in sound, video, collage, and sculpture. He holds an MFA in Photography from Ulster University (2019). In 2025, he was shortlisted for the AIB Portrait Prize (National Gallery of Ireland) and selected for the FUTURES Photography platform.

His work has been published by Rotten Books, Source, Photo Museum Ireland, The Library Project and Sony World Photography. Shane has exhibited extensively in Ireland and shown work in Germany, Italy, India, China, Japan and the UK. He is a founding member of the ‘Tóch | Dig’ collective which was born from his experiences of overlooked and unheard voices encountered while making his project ‘Beneath | Beofhód’.
He works primarily on self-directed photography projects but has diversified recently with collaborative, community engaged and short film projects.
