P5 is a new photography and poetry pamphlet series directed by Photoworks in partnership with David Solo, and designed by Jane & Jeremy.  Each edition will be sold through Photoworks online shop, stockists and related events.

Photography and poetry have been in dialogue since the earliest days of the camera. The space between these forms invites layered meaning, unexpected emotion, and new ways of seeing. Yet despite nearly 200 years of such work and many stand out examples, photo-poetry has not been widely recognised as a distinct genre.

Today, there is a growing interest in this field – especially by practitioners working with poetry and photography, but also increasingly across performance, video and other media.  To further encourage, support and draw attention to the possibilities of such combinations, we decided to launch a new pamphlet series called P5.

Our open call invited submissions of unpublished work from artists from around the world. We were thrilled to receive over 100 entries, showcasing an exciting range of topics, modes of collaboration, design approaches and forms – each exploring how text, image and page can combine in meaningful, experimental, and unexpected ways.

Stay tuned for news about the P5 launch.

Andrew Zawacki

An alumnus of Penumbra’s Long Term Photobook Program and the Chico Review, Andrew Zawacki is fascinated by contemporary expressions and renovations of the pastoral. Over the last decade, his hybrid text-image projects have centered on the poetics of Paris graffiti, Tang Dynasty lyrics and landscape painting, and geographies of the American South. Zawacki is the author of six poetry books, most recently These Late Eclipses. He has also published several books in France, where he was a finalist for the Prix Nelly Sachs, and his translations have earned a French Voices Grant, an NEA Translation Fellowship, and a fellowship from the Centre National du Livre. A former Howard Foundation Fellow in Poetry, he is Distinguished Research Professor of English at the University of Georgia.

Andrew’s P5 pamphlet will be released in Autumn 2025.
