For this issue of Photography+ themed around the relationship between photography and poetry, our community submission open call is twofold:
You can respond to the photograph “To hide a butterfly” by Joel Hilska-Heikkinen with a poem, or respond to the poem “Here I come” by Rosa Cass with a photograph.
You are welcome to respond to both and submit a poem and a photograph. The selected text and image will be published in the spring issue of Photography+ and we pay an image / poem fee of £80.
By submitting your poem or photograph you agree to the Photoworks team sharing your piece with Joel Hilska-Heikkinen and Rosa Cass.
Deadline to apply is 26 March 2026.

Photography by Joel Hilska-Heikkinen
Joel Hilska-Heikkinen (b. 1997) is a photographic artist working with lens-based practices, text, and sound. Their work deals with the act of seeing and its connections to the camera apparatus and language.
Questions of how the more-than-human is represented through art and science, or how lived experience, use of language, and memories affect one’s relationship with the natural world are reoccurring themes in their practice.
