Photography+ is Photoworks’ quarterly online magazine. Read by international audiences, the digital publication showcases new writing, imagery, and perspectives on photography. Each issue focuses on a different theme, exploring how photography crosses over with everyday life. In past issues, we have focused on themes such as Time, Architecture, Dance, and Space. Our latest issue is on the Environment, published in December 2021.
Photoworks would like to appoint a Writer in Residence for 2022 to contribute to four issues of Photography+. This role includes working closely with the Editor, Curators, and Digital Marketing Officer to plan each issue and to deliver four written articles, (of approximately 1000 words each), one for each issue of 2022/23.
The successful writer should have a working knowledge of contemporary photography as well as a willingness to look beyond photography for inspiration. This opportunity suits an early-career writer looking to gain experience writing and publishing online.
This is a paid residency with a £1500 fee, with expected outputs of four articles and a series of online or in-person meetings with the Photoworks team. Photoworks is based in the UK, but writers are welcome to apply from all over the world.
The opportunity is open to all and runs from March 2022 to February 2023. Photoworks strives to be an inclusive organisation that represents a broad range of experiences and perspectives. We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who are underrepresented in the arts sector because of ethnicity, socio-economic background and/or disability.
Please complete your application by 21 February 2022. If you’d like to submit your application in an alternative format, or if you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applicants will be informed by 28 February, and the residency will begin in the middle of March.
