Offprint London returns to Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall for its fourth edition, hosting 140 independent and experimental publishers in contemporary art, photography and graphic design, in collaboration with Tate Modern.
For this edition, Photoworks has collaborated with Tate to present new photography in the project space.
#cornered
What compels people to photograph specific locations? What part do architecture, illusion of space, or colour play in these decisions? What makes a desirable environment in the age of social media?
Inspired by Irving Penn’s corner portraits and the Museum of Ice-Cream, Photoworks has invited three artists to each design an environment in which the public will photograph themselves and their friends, sharing resulting images on social media with the hashtag #cornered.
We’ll share our favourites on our own channels, on screens at Offprint during the three-day event and afterwards on our website.
The three commissioned artists are Thomas Albdorf, Maisie Cousins and Alix Marie. The artists will discuss their #cornered projects 6pm Friday 18 May as part of an informal Photoworks talks programme (see below).
Young people from the Photoworks youth programme, supported by artist Marysa Dowling will be on hand to facilitate on Sunday afternoon.
Events
A free programme of events runs throughout the weekend. Visitors will be able to meet artists, ask questions and drop in or out at any point.
All our talks are open conversations, no need to book, just turn up and join in.

The theme of Photoworks’ upcoming Brighton Photo Biennial (28 September – 28 October 2018) will be The New Europe.
The UK’s status in the European Union may be changing, however, geographically Britain will remain part of Europe, with a shared history and intertwined future. At this transitional point, we will use photography to examine our current state of flux, reflecting on our relationship with Europe and the geographies of the United Kingdom.
Director of Photoworks Shoair Mavlian, who is curating the Biennial, will host an open discussion about the theme. If you’re making work on the subject, or interested in the topic, please drop in and join the discussion.
