Our evening event is focussed on words, images, and of course dancing. Local spoken word poets Erin James, Noah Martin and AFLO. the Poet will be performing in response to this year’s Photoworks Annual #30 The Thing. Followed by a very special DJ set by our PhotoworksXAmpersand Artist in Residence, Matthew Arthur Williams (Junglehussi) together with guest slideshows.
AFLO. the Poet
AFLO. the Poet is an award-winning spoken word artist, activist and academic who embraces creative expression to disrupt the status quo and inspire social change. AFLO.’s work addresses hard-hitting topics, primarily focussing on colonialism, racism and mental health.
Noah Sumptions
Noah Sumptions is a Brighton-based poet and performer known for diving deep into the intricate and (sometimes) unspeakable parts of the human condition. Previously performed at Glastonbury, Trans Pride Brighton and any open mic that’ll have them.
Erin James
Erin James is a Brighton based multi-disciplinary artist, “hoping to change the world one poem at a time”. Their practice involves the merging of art and activism, and their mediums include Poetry, Photography, Facilitation, DJing and Acting.
Matthew Arthur Williams
La Cheetah Club resident and regular on Glasgow’s local radio stations Clydebuilt and Radio Buena Vida, Junglehussi has been making noise on the Glasgow club circuit since 2016 making a mark for himself with genre stretching mixes and sets. Real name Matthew Arthur Williams who is also a photographer and artist has long since been playing for the likes of Honey Dijon, Joy Orbison, Robert Owens, Josey Rebelle, BokBok, Optimo and Carista to name a few.
