Quincey Spagnoletti

When Quincey Spagnoletti looked back at her childhood, she was confronted with conflicting notions about how a woman is supposed to act and ‘perform’ for society. Her upbringing was dominated by traditional norms but as an adult she has found other role models; her series Home Studio sets up constructed images to disrupt and unlearn what she was taught. Spagnoletti uses life-sized objects and props, and often plays with the theme of control, searching for the ideal model, an exact replica of a leather chair or a childhood dollhouse. The camera is a tool to elucidate her own emotions and personal relationships and her studio practice is a back-and-forth between pathos and logic, she says, in an ongoing search for who she is as a woman, internally and externally.  

Quincey Spagnoletti earned her BA in Art & Art History from Colgate University, where she was the recipient of the Gary M. Hoffer Prize for Excellence in Photography. Her senior thesis In the Spare Room, was featured at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, Visual Arts, in LaCrosse Wisconsin. Spagnoletti recently graduated with her MFA at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, and has most recently exhibited at The SE Center for Photography in Greenville, South Carolina; the Dallas Center for Photography in Texas; Panopticon Gallery in Boston; and Praxis Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis. Spagnoletti was born in Syracuse, New York and currently lives in Boston.
