Noblesse Oblige – Chris Harrison

The first of this series of commissions, Chris Harrison photographed the residents and interiors of the Somerset Hospital in Petworth. With an essay by Peter Jerrome, Chairman of the Petworth Society and author of several books on George Garland and other photographers of Petworth.

The Country Life series, curated by Val Williams, invited artists to respond to the George Garland Collection, archived at the West Sussex County Records Office. Garland made thousands of photographs from his studio in Petworth of the rural England that he knew would soon disappear.
