About this work:

“I really like this image’ says Roberts, ‘It was shot during my trip in Russia, but wasn’t included in the book Motherland. The photograph was taken in the Altai Mountains in Southern Siberia on the border with Mongolia in May 2005. It’s a very sparse landscape with few inhabited places around. We’d been camping overnight and were heading towards the Katunsky mountain range (in the distance). Seemingly out of nowhere this petite orange car, crammed full of passengers and luggage, came hurtling past, music blaring, following a dirt track across the taiga towards the Kazakh village of Tebelir. Moments later they had disappeared over the horizon and we were left alone once again. Very surreal.”
