This series shows the empty stage as a place of absence and artificiality. Marks examines a space that is both permanent yet constantly reworked to create the illusions of the theatre. Stripped of the enhancements of stage lighting, the seemingly monochromatic surfaces reveal the evidence of their construction. In these unpeopled spaces, traces of drama remain. The work has been created on stage sets used for small scale and regional touring productions.

Rachael Lowndes gained a BSc (Hons) First Class in Media Production (Photography) at the University of Surrey/FCOT. Her work has been shown in the AOP Student Awards 2011, The Strand Gallery, London and her book Almshouse was a finalist in the Photography Book Now Blurb Awards 2011.
