Roger Coulam makes camera-less images with found, un-considered, wasted and discarded objects.
Coulam describes his work as ‘part environmental and part vanitas’.
‘The work references larger themes through metaphor or by visual transformation…I am interested in what we find, pick up and collect, and about what these items can reveal to us and about our lives. My work also considers the legacy our civilisation is leaving behind, imagining a future archaeology based upon fragments of plastic and glass.
This work was inspired after finding a glass marble on a polluted beach. I made a picture with it, and a glowing red planet-like sphere appeared, transporting me back to my childhood’
