Kaamna Patel (b. Mumbai, 1988) is a visual artist and book maker currently based in Mumbai, her home city. After graduating with a degree in English Literature, Kaamna went on to study photography at Parsons Paris (now Paris College of Art). Her work is situated within photography and she is interested in exploring the periphery of documentation and representation within the medium, often working with abstraction and the broken image that take the form of archival prints and as books.
She launched her publishing imprint Editions JOJO with her book ‘In Today’s News: Alpha Males Women Power’ in May 2019 in Mumbai which has has since expanded to become a platform for contemporary visual culture, at the centre of which is one of the largest photobook libraries in the region.
In 2019, her book dummy ‘Dori’ was shortlisted for the Kassel Photobook Dummy Awards and ‘In Today’s News’ was listed on the Best Photobooks by Women by Fast Forward: Women in Photography in 2021. The title has also entered Martin Parr’s collection at the Tate Modern in London.
Kaamna was an artist in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in 2022.
