Photoworks are partnering New Writing South and Pink Fringe for Queer in Brighton, a project to create an archive of queer heritage in our home city.
Queer in Brighton is a Heritage Lottery funded project celebrating and promoting the cultural heritage of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) community in Brighton & Hove. Using photography, creative writing and performance this heritage learning project will enable young and older members of the LGBT community to engage with, learn about, and share hidden LGBT histories.
Anthony Luvera has been commissioned to work with LGBT people living in Brighton to create photographic work revealing some of the hidden histories and personal stories of Brighton’s queer community, both young and old.
Through a series of group workshops and individual meetings, participants will be enabled to develop their photographic skills and encouraged to articulate their points of view about LGBT issues in Brighton through photography. Work made by and with participants will then be used in an outdoor city-wide exhibition and featured in the Queer in Brighton anthology.
Previous photography experience is not essential. Meetings will take place at New Writing South in central Brighton on the following days and times:
- Tuesday 30 July 6pm – 9pm
- Saturday 10 August 1pm – 5pm
- Saturday 17 August 1pm – 5pm
- Saturday 24 August 1pm – 5pm
- Saturday 31 August 1pm – 5pm
