JPA 3 awardee Silvia Rosi has been chosen as one of the artists to this year exhibit work at Photo Oxford.
Self Portrait as my Father, made for JPA 3, is on display until November 16 as part of the festival, which celebrates the theme Women and Photography: Ways of Seeing and Being Seen.
Togolaise-Italian photographer Rosi explores her family history by retracing her parents’ journey of migration from Togo to Italy and drawing on her Togolaise heritage, and the idea of origins.
Photo Oxford will host this image, taken from her Encounter series, which was exhibited at Jerwood Arts in London earlier this year, and which will tour nationally and internationally in 2020-2021, as part of her award.
The exhibit, in collaboration with Photoworks, is supported by Jesus College, Oxford, and will be installed in a public space in central Oxford, open to a wide audience. Locate the work on Photo Oxford’s map here
Photo Oxford gives visitors the chance to experience original, arresting and rarely-seen photography exhibitions, installations and screenings at venues across the city. It also takes place outdoors and online.
Founded in 2015, the Jerwood/Photoworks Awards are a collaboration between Jerwood Arts and Photoworks, supported by Arts Council England and Official Print Partner, Spectrum Photographic. They are presented every two years in London and on tour nationally.
Each JPA Awardee receives an award of £10,000 to support the time and space to research and develop new work, with access to a production fund of up to £5,000 each and has been supported over a year-long period from an impressive mentoring panel. Artists supported include: Matthew Finn, Joanna Piotrowska and Tereza Zelenkova, Alejandra Carles-Tolra, Sam Laughlin, Lua Ribeira, Silvia Rosi and Theo Simpson.
