This series shows the empty stage as a place of absence and artificiality. Marks examines a space that is both permanent yet constantly reworked to create the illusions of the theatre. Stripped of the enhancements of stage lighting, the seemingly monochromatic surfaces reveal the evidence of their construction. In these unpeopled spaces, traces of drama remain. The work has been created on stage sets used for small scale and regional touring productions.
