V3: Model Collapse is the third part of a four-part project called Variations. Variations is an evolving installation investigating the processes of artificial intelligence (AI) and how digital photographic material makes its journey from mineral to pixel; and from beneath the Earth’s surface to the screen.
In this film, we hear directly from the artist and understand how the previous iterations of Variations have informed V3: Model Collapse. Exhibited at The Photographers’ Gallery from 27 June to 28 September 2025, V3: Model Collapse uses various methods from sculpture, photographic provespainting to collage. The photographs reflect the errors and inconsistencies of Al generated images, showing how they begin to collapse and fall apart, full of impossibilities and inaccuracies.
Variations is commissioned by Photoworks through the Ampersand/Photoworks Fellowship, a unique biennial opportunity that supports a mid-career artist to create and exhibit a new body of work.
