Photographers Camilla Marrese, Alessandro Truffa and Gabriele Chiapparini will undertake a one-week artists’ residency at Forestry England Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire. The intention is for the artists to reflect upon their time in the forest and develop new work upon their return to Italy that can eventually be presented in an exhibition at the Courtyard Exhibition Space in the future.
As part of the residency, the artists will take part in two free events:
Artist Networking Event in Dalby Forest
4 April, 2pm – Forestry England Dalby
This is a chance for artists and anyone interested in art and the forest to meet Alessandro, Camilla and Gabriele and hear about their practice, past and ongoing projects. The artists will informally introduce their recent works and publications followed by conversations over refreshments.
Artist’s Talk
11 April, 6.30pm – Italian Cultural Institute, London
Join us for an evening of conversation and networking. Fresh from their residency, the artists will discuss how the residency has shaped future artistic inquiry, discussing their experience during the residency at Forestry England’s Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire – a 8,500 acres of woodland, with a rich history of hosting artists inspired by its landscape, ecology, and heritage.
About the artists:
- Alessandro Truffa, a Turin-based photographer and visual artist. This research revolves around the themes of care relationships and ritual traditions exploring potential correlations between photographic language and various disciplinary fields, including history and anthropology.
- Camilla Marrese is an Italian photographer and designer. Her practice combines documentary photography, design for publishing, and writing, with the goal of expressing and visualizing complex issues.
- Gabriele Chiapparini, a photographer and film director, collaborates with Camilla as part of an artist duo. They focus on collaboration as a path to transform and process individual thinking into matter for collective elaboration; an approach reflected in their latest book, Thinking Like an Island (Overlapse, 2024).
The artists were selected through the Giovane Fotografia Italiana | Premio Luigi Ghirri (Young Italian Photography | Luigi Ghirri Award) and the residency is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute.
