Debmalya Ray Choudhuri (b. Kolkata) (he/they) is a nonbinary, self-taught photographer from India, based between New York and Calcutta.

Rooted in a diaristic approach, their practice spans photography, performance and text. Debmalya’s work centres trauma and resilience while addressing broader societal questions on gender, identity, migration and memory.

Debmayla is also part of Photoworks Festival Un/Stable: Lands, Anxieties, Dreams, with The Weight of the Earth, selected by Photoworks as part of the International Photography Festivals Association’s IPFA Award 2025. The work will be exhibited at the University of Brighton, room 101, from 2 October to 1 November 2026.
